Engaging with People with Lived Experience of Health and Social Care Services
Do you use Health and Social Care services?
Do you care for someone who uses Health and Social Care services?
People who use Health and Social Care services and their carers are a growing part of Health and Social Care courses at Coventry University. We value the knowledge, skills and experience of these individuals and the people who care for them.
We are committed to strengthening engagement in all aspects of Health and Social Care programmes in order to influence and shape future Health and Social Care professionals.
There are a number of opportunities for you to become involved with the School of Health and Care, including:
- interviewing people that are thinking about studying at the university;
- attending meetings, which could be about teaching, interviewing or courses;
- sharing your lived experiences with students;
- giving your views about students’ coursework such as presentations or posters;
- giving your feedback to the lecturers about your experience, highlighting areas of the courses that could be improved;
- helping us design our courses and curriculum;
- training and support opportunities to help you in your role.
What do people with lived experience enjoy about their involvement in the School of Health and Care?
Receiving student and staff feedback and being able to inspire others.
Highlighting to students what its like 'living with a condition'.
Bridging the gap between academic language and everyday language.
What do students say about hearing from people with lived experience?
Lots of time can be spent theorising; having the voice of experience from the service user perspective was invaluable.
I loved this session; it brought ‘reality’ into our largely theoretical learning (so far) and placed the service user back at the heart of learning.
