Your fee status
UK government legislation allows publicly funded institutions to charge fees to EU/International students a higher rate than to Home (UK) students unless they fulfil certain residence and immigration status criteria (see UKCISA Fee Categories).
The information provided below describes the eligibility criteria for being charged a Home or EU/International Fee.
Fee status
The university’s assessment of your fee status will determine whether you pay the Home or the EU/International fee rate. Your fee status stays the same unless your immigration status has changed, in which case you have the right to request a reassessment of your status.
New applicants
If you are a new applicant and have applied to study on an undergraduate or postgraduate course, your fee status is determined by the university based on the information you have supplied on your course application form.
The Admissions Office will confirm in your offer letter whether you will pay Home or EU/International fees. If you require a fee assessment, the Admissions team will send you a fee assessment form and request further information to decide your fee status..
Current students
If you are a current student and your residency status, citizenship or certain other circumstances have changed after you have enrolled onto your course you may be eligible for a review to your Fee Status.
The main reasons where this may apply are:
- you (or a family member of) have been granted Refugee status, or
- you (or a family member of) have been granted HP (Humanitarian Protection or DL (Discretionary Leave), or
- you (or a family member of) have become a British National or a family member of a British National.
In each instance, all relevant conditions must be met.
Please note that if you have enrolled and midway through your course and you get your Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), it is unlikely you will be able to change your fee status. There are strict criteria that must be met to change fee status.
1
Fee status assessment
Based on the information you provide on your course application form, our Admissions/Student Support team will assess your fee status. You might receive a Fee Assessment Form to provide further information and documents about your fee status.
We may need to contact you by email to request further information if we are unable to determine your fee status. If you are unable to provide this information, you may be assessed as EU/International for tuition fee purposes OR we will not be able to process your application and you may miss studying at the university. We can also contact the Home Office with your permission to confirm your status.
Unfortunately, we are unable to conduct fee assessments before we receive your application.

Documents
The form has questions that ask for documentary evidence. This should be in a copy/photograph of the document (officially translated into English where necessary). Please be aware that you will be asked to provide original or certified copies of documents at a later stage for a Right to Study Check before enrolling.
