Living In Coventry
The best way to get a feel for life at Coventry University is to experience it for yourself by visiting one of our Open Days. If your son or daughter is offered a place at Coventry they will be invited to attend an Open Day specifically for applicants. You can also take a look around the University without stepping out of the door by exploring our virtual tour.
Explore Coventry
Coventry University is a campus university situated in the centre of Coventry; this allows our students to experience the best of both worlds. Coventry has a thriving arts and music scene, professional and amateur sports of all descriptions and a variety of social enterprises and clubs all within walking distance of the University. The campus format means that there is a large area exclusively set up to cater for students and social and lecture spaces are within convenient walking distance of most halls of residence. The other advantage is that the Protection team are always nearby in an emergency and monitor campus for suspicious activity.
There are several buildings worth noting around the campus, particularly TheHub which is the home of the Students’ Union Advice Centre, Health and Wellbeing Services, Medical Centre and the Spirituality and Faith Centre. The building was designed to bring all the Students’ Union support services together at the heart of campus and also has two floors of group working and social spaces. It provides a place to relax in between lectures or to work in a less formal setting than the Lanchester Library.
Things to get involved in
Many students meet people with similar interests and pick up new hobbies by joining one of the many sports clubs and societies on offer, there are currently over 160 to choose from. The Students’ Union can help students set up their own society if they have an interest not currently represented.
Societies are student-formed and run, with a focus on everything from academic interests to future aspirations, to hobbies such as Pokémon. Students can join as many societies as they like and many choose to help run their favourite societies later in their degree; with the extra benefit of enhancing their CV. You can view a full list of societies.
Sports Clubs
Sport is another key feature of life at Coventry; we have an excellent sports centre right in the middle of the campus. This includes two sports halls, a dance studio with a range of exercise classes and a gym (subject to extra charges). We have outdoor pitches a short bus journey up the road at Westwood Heath.
There is a range of sports clubs that are all run by students for students giving the opportunity to learn a new sport, represent the University and get involved in running their club. Many of our sports clubs compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) leagues. Sports clubs include the usual such as football, rugby and cricket, as well as more unusual clubs including breakdancing, karting and skydiving.
Living at home
Many students choose to live at home while studying at Coventry University but the sports and societies on offer mean they can still be just as involved in University life. TheHub has been developed with students who commute in mind. It provides coffee shops, group study spaces, printers, places to socialise or relax and a food court so that students always have somewhere to go and things to do between lectures.
