48 hours games challenge
Between 31 January and 2 February 2020, 45 students from multiple courses participated in a 48 hour games development challenge called ‘Global Game Jam’.
This annual event is an excellent opportunity for students to experience the game development lifecycle within a condensed period of time.
Teams have 48 hours to complete their games and upload them to the Global Game Jam website to be shared with the world.
Playable end-product
The event is one of many international collaborations here at Coventry University, specifically designed to encourage students to develop a playable end-product that they can use as part of their personal portfolios.
All Coventry University students are welcome to come along and have fun, working in teams to make a range of games-related content such as characters, music, levels, 2D/3D content and the game itself!
This year, it is estimated that 50,000 students in 930 sites participated from over 119 countries around the world. This event is free to attend and fully supported by Coventry University staff.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the games produced by students during the Game Jam:
Collision
Your space ship collides with an asteroid full of aliens. The impact destroys the ship, letting said aliens enter the ship and destroy it further. It's YOUR job to save the ship and repair it!
Scrapdown
A 2-Player Robot Boxing Game! Smack each other up and collect scrap parts to repair yourself!
Broken Relationships
You are Steve. You blanked out from last night and now the whole world hates you! However, you have a magic crafting zone that can repair items back to new! Gain friends and have an adventure.
All completed games produced by Coventry University students can be viewed on the Global Game Jam website.
