Preparing for an event

Top tips for attending an open day

Want to see what’s on offer here at Coventry University? Now’s your chance!

To help you get the most out of your day, we’ve put together some top tips to help you prepare ahead of the event.

1

Prepare for your visit

Visiting a new and unfamiliar campus can be daunting. Open Days aren’t just an opportunity to find out about courses, they also provide an opportunity to see the facilities and where you might study.

You may want to bring with you:

  • A bag for any useful documents you pick up during your day.
  • A portable phone charger.
  • A family member, guardian, or friend for support – it’s always good to get a second opinion.
  • A list of any key facilities you’d like to view during the Open Day – you can also view our virtual tour before your visit to get an idea of facilities to add to your list.

As a rough guide to how our Open Days work, have a look at an Open Day visitor guide and Open Day campus map. These will give you a good idea of what’s available but are subject to change and are updated and reissued for our future Open Days.

2

Write a list of questions

Open Days are great opportunities to quiz university staff and students – student ambassadors will be able to answer questions about student life. Prepare beforehand to ensure you don’t forget to ask any burning questions. It may also help to speak to your parents or guardians about what you’d like to know about university life. Be sure to explore our range of courses ahead of the event. This will place you in a better position to ask the right questions and learn more about your chosen subject area.

3

Explore the wider city

We hope that you want to make Coventry your home for the next few years. Soaking up the atmosphere and getting a feel for the city is just as important as finding out all the information for your chosen course. From the Coventry Cathedral and surrounding cobbled streets to the hustle and bustle of the modern city centre, there will be plenty for you to see during your visit. So, try and leave extra time to explore beyond the campus buildings; you never know what might be around the next corner!

4

During your visit

Talk to student ambassadors, and don’t be afraid to ask teaching staff those difficult questions. Ensure you say hello to all the support services who will be on campus to speak with you; this could be regarding anything from welfare support, the Students' Union or our disability services.

Finally, have fun and enjoy your visit. We hope to see you again in September!
