1. How did studying at Coventry University enhance your career?
I studied MSc Automotive Engineering (2004-2005) at Coventry. The course was very practical and industry focused. We visited Gaydon at (Ford PAG) now JLR testing facility. The visit revealed working of automotive OEMs. A major contributor to my career was my 3 months MSc project at a local company called Majenta Solutions, which was organised by Coventry University. In these 3 months, I got an experience of working with an automotive design company. They were channel partners for Siemens PLM software and after my return to India from the UK, I setup a business of my own on the same lines as Majenta Solutions. Today my business is a full fledged company with me holding 40% stake in the company. I still do business with Majenta Solutions.
2. What is your favourite memory of Coventry?
My favourite memories were made at my residence in Coventry, Lynden House. We were a mix of international students from China, Greece, Jordan, Libya and Iraq. We stayed together and had the best time of our life in Coventry.
3. What would you say to a student thinking of studying here?
I would say that Coventry is a truly international university with students from around the world. The exposure you will get is unparalleled. the strong industrial connections with the automotive industry and the equipment available will help you get at par with industry. Overall being a small town, as a student you will know all other students and have a fun time while studying.
4. What is your top tip to current students?
My advice to current students is that engineering is a wide area. Rather than graduating with generic knowledge, identify your skill area and develop that at university. For example, I developed an interest in 3D CAD and developed that skill at Coventry to industry level. A skilled worker will never be out of a job.
