Naomi Cousins
Coventry University gave Adult Nursing graduate, Naomi Cousins a second chance to excel in her studies to pursue her dream career.
Naomi, age 25, worked tirelessly throughout her studies and will graduate with a first class honours degree, and also receive an award for outstanding student in her faculty.
I originally started studying the Nursing Diploma aged 18 at another university, but found myself lacking the experience and maturity needed to complete my training. Knowing that I still wanted to be a nurse, I sought to gain the practical experience and confidence that I lacked, and two years later I was ready to try again.
I knew Coventry University was right for me. The logo of the Phoenix resonated with me – as Coventry had risen out of the ashes, I felt it was my time to do the same. I said to my parents ‘this is the one, I’m going to Coventry!’ To then find out that the university ranked quite highly nationally and had a good reputation for its’ nursing course was an added bonus.
The intensive nature of Naomi’s course really prepared and equipped her with the skills she needed.
My time at Coventry University has helped me grow as a person and have confidence in myself and my ability to provide a high standard of care. This, along with my passion to be part of a team of like-minded people focussed on producing the best possible outcomes, will continue to make a difference to the lives of others.
When you can see how all of it combined has enabled you to make that positive difference in the lives of the people you’re caring for, it’s all worth it. Achieving first class honours at the end of it all has been the cherry on the cake.
Naomi told us because of her experience at Coventry she is now no longer afraid to step outside of her comfort zone:
I’m proud of the person I’ve become, and the person I am continuing to grow into. I have always been naturally shy and let my insecurities and lack of confidence stop me from trying too hard.
But on my journey to becoming a qualified nurse I can safely say that I have put all of that behind me. My passion for nursing people and supporting others in such times of need challenges me daily to step beyond my comfort zone, and become the best version of myself, and the best nurse I can be.
Naomi is now back in her home city of London, and has started her first graduate role working as a gynaecology nurse.
