The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) takes place in Glasgow this year and will bring together 196 world leaders to set targets and accelerate actions to tackle climate change.
Coventry University has been working towards a greener future for many years, through investing in its research, rolling out community and stakeholder initiatives and supporting the drive to net zero with the proposed build of a clean growth innovation district located in Ryton near Rugby.
During COP26, the university will showcase the work and achievements of staff and students who are working hard in their specialist areas to collectively achieve climate change goals.
Activities include faculty workshops with ‘Students Organising for Sustainability’ to consider sustainable careers, Carbon Literacy training sessions and the university’s Corporate Investment Fund managers will be talking to our students about the importance of ethical and sustainable investments.

I am part of a volunteering team that supports reforestation (we4all); I cycle instead of driving; I recycle; and I try to make choices that help reduce carbon emissions. We need to educate, build communities and act globally. We need to push reforestation and protect the sea. COP26 should set strict goals to engage governments around the world, and universities can promote and support students and staff who campaign or volunteer.

With Curriculum 2025, I provide a recent graduate perspective on curriculum design, and have been focussing on developing resources to support everyone to understand the impact, position, and power they have to act on sustainability issues. I recently supported the creation of a sustainability calendar to help people in our community to think more sustainably and to see that there are many practical ways to take action.
