Dignity and Respect
Coventry University recognises that its employees and students have a right to be treated (and have an obligation to treat others) with dignity and respect so that the Institution is free from any form of harassment or bullying. The existence of any form of harassment can create a threatening and intimidating environment with adverse consequences for job and academic performance but, more importantly, for general health and well being. This is completely unacceptable and potentially unlawful and actionable. The University will therefore adopt a zero tolerance approach to such action when proven.
We have a network of Dignity and Respect Advisers who are there to support any member of staff or student.
Staff Equality Network Groups
At the University we have a number of Staff Equality Networks that are part of the EDI Structure to provide a voice for equality related issues. They are run by staff for staff with support and co-ordination from the EDI Team.
There are currently Staff Equality Network Groups in the following areas:
- Disability
- LGBTQ+
- Mental Health
- Race
- Women
We also have a Group to support staff with Cancer.
What do the Network Groups do?
The focus and activities of each Group varies. However, the broad remit was agreed by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Council as detailed in the Flow Chart that is on our Structure page.
- Provide informal peer support and networking
- raise issues of concern, that they believe are related to their equality identity, for discussion and hopeful resolution
- To inform fellow members of local or national developments related to the shared equality identity.
- To take part in university consultations
- Via the Chair / Lead Member receive and raise issues via the Equality Sub-councils
The Staff Equality Network Groups have also been involved in varied activities, including Special events across campuses, including guest speakers and lectures, film nights, campaigns, and displays to mark events for example for Black History Month and International Women's Day.
