Sharing my personal experience made me feel part of a community
Agnes Cheba Ade is a BA Financial Economics student who started her personal journey through enterprise when she attended a Launch ID8 event. The event gave her a chance to share her own experiences and work with others on solutions to different issues.
The first workshop I attended at Coventry University’s Enterprise Hub (CUSE) was about tackling problems faced by young people, such as knife crime, violence and mental health issues. It was quite heart-breaking to learn about all the difficulties and dark times that the effect of knife crime has had on so many young people in the UK. We discussed how we think it’s critical to create more spaces where those who are willing to be positively transformed, can feel heard, understood and supported.
On a personal note, I’ve struggled with mental health issues including anxiety and depression. Although I was afraid to speak about it, the workshop really helped me to open up about my experience and realise that there are so many other people going through the same. It was very liberating and also, a great reminder that even when you hit rock bottom, there’s still light at the end of the tunnel...if you’re willing to see it. This workshop somehow reaffirmed how powerful it was to combine forces for good and to share our stories.
The confidence I gained from my first CUSE workshop encouraged me to look at what other opportunities were available at CUSE and I was thrilled to discover all the courses, events and workshops they were offering us for free! Thanks to CUSE I am currently continuing with the coaching sessions and I have to say that it has really helped me to define myself. CUSE have made me feel part of a big impactful community and I’m so grateful to them. I really look forward to seeing the fruits of this seed that they have helped me plant!”
