The course enables you to ‘top-up’ your existing qualifications – an undergraduate level certificate, diploma or equivalent in computing or related fields – to the internationally recognised ‘honours degree’ classification.

How you'll learn

Teaching contact hours

You should typically have around 12-15 hours of contact time per week. Your contact time will vary depending on your background knowledge (at the start of the module) and learning style and the requirements of the module. As you work through the modules, it will be explained that some modules allow you to spend more time working through your coursework and will reflect the support and guidance you will be given towards this.

Additionally, you will be expected to undertake significant self-directed study of approximately 16-20 hours each week, depending on the demands of individual modules.

As an innovative and enterprising institution, the University may seek to utilise emerging technologies within the student experience. For all courses (whether on-campus, blended, or distance learning), the University may deliver certain contact hours and assessments via online technologies and methods.

This course is suitable for students of computing or software studies who have successfully completed at least two years (four academic semesters) in a relevant subject at an appropriate academic level.

The university will charge the tuition fees that are stated in the above table for the first Academic Year of study. The university will review tuition fees each year. For UK (home) students, if Parliament permits an increase in tuition fees, the university may increase fees for each subsequent year of study in line with any such changes. Note that any increase is expected to be in line with inflation.

For international students, we may increase fees each year, but such increases will be no more than 5% above inflation. If you defer your course start date or have to extend your studies beyond the normal duration of the course (e.g. to repeat a year or resit examinations) the university reserves the right to charge you fees at a higher rate and/or in accordance with any legislative changes during the additional period of study.

*Irish student fees

The rights of Irish residents to study in the UK are preserved under the Common Travel Area arrangement. If you are an Irish student and meet the residency criteria, you can study in England, pay the same level of tuition fees as English students and utilise the Tuition Fee Loan.

**EU Support Bursary

Following the UK's exit from the European Union, we are offering financial support to all eligible EU students who wish to study an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree with us full-time. This bursary will be used to offset the cost of your tuition fees to bring them in line with that of UK students. Students studying a degree with a foundation year with us are not eligible for the bursary.

On successful completion of this programme, you will be able to:

  • Critically analyse and apply essential concepts, principles and practices of the subject in the context of loosely defined scenarios, showing effective judgement in the selection and use of related development tools and techniques.
  • Produce work involving problem identification, the analysis, the design or the development of a system, with appropriate documentation.
  • Demonstrate professional skills with an ability to show organised work both as an individual and as a team member and with minimum guidance.
  • Be creative and innovative in your application of the principles covered in the curriculum.

Career destinations for successful graduates include Cyber Security, Data Science and Mobile application development, or continued study at postgraduate level.

Further study

Alternatively, you may decide to pursue postgraduate study opportunities by studying courses such as Computer Science MSc, Data Science MSc or Data Science and Computational Intelligence MSc which could further enhance your employability. 

Graduate Immigration Route visa

Based on current information from the UK Government, international students whose study extends beyond summer 2021 may be eligible for a visa under the UK Government’s Graduate Immigration Route, which will enable students to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for up to two (2) years.
