How you'll learn

We currently maintain strong relationships with professional associations and employers, especially when it comes to curriculum design, so what we aim to teach you is a true reflection of what’s current in industry and the skills that employers are looking for.

  • Teaching methods include: learning journey, webinars, workshops, debates, case studies, consultancy projects, simulations, business plans, and online collaborations2.
  • Our action-learning approach focuses on group work, business simulations and real-world activities such as live projects with clients in the private, public and third sectors2.
  • Take part in extra-curricular activities such as our Student Enterprise Business Society, student mentoring programmes and volunteering opportunities to develop your personal and professional skills. You could also take part in our High Flyers programme (subject to availability), to help you develop the personal and professional skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world, through a suite of extracurricular, non-course specific workshops.

This course can be offered on a part-time basis. While we would like to give you all the information about our part-time offering here, it is tailored for each course each year depending on the number of part-time applicants. Therefore, the part-time teaching arrangements vary. Request further information about part-time study.

Teaching contact hours

The number of full-time contact hours may vary from semester to semester; however, on average, it is likely to be around 12 contact hours per week. They may be a combination of face-to-face teaching, individual and group tutorials, and online classes and tutorials.

Additionally, you will be expected to undertake significant self-directed study of approximately 24 hours each week, depending on the demands of individual modules.

As an innovative and enterprising institution, the university may seek to utilise emerging technologies within the student experience. For all courses (whether on-campus, blended, or distance learning), the university may deliver certain contact hours and assessments via online technologies and methods.

Since COVID-19, we have delivered our courses in a variety of forms, in line with public authority guidance, decisions, or orders and we will continue to adapt our delivery as appropriate. Whether on campus or online, our key priority is staff and student safety.

Assessment

This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which will vary depending upon the module.

Assessment methods may include:

  • Group work
  • Presentations
  • Projects
  • Individual report
  • Pitch
  • Blog
  • Case Study
  • Simulated learning

International experience opportunities

This course's globalised approach to the curriculum, places your learning in the context of international challenges, opportunities and regulatory frameworks. It should prepare you for working globally, whether overseas, or for a multi-national, or for a firm which trades internationally. You will have the opportunity for an international field trip. You could also arrange to do either a consultancy project or an internship2 (as part of your final major project) overseas. You may benefit from studying alongside a typically international cohort of students, learning from the perspectives they bring while developing your own ability to work cross-culturally.

I will forever cherish the classes because even when we were away from the classrooms, group activities and group discussions never ceased. Even using online platforms, lecturers encouraged a good environment for deliberation and debates - offers an unparalleled learning experience.

Careers and opportunities

The course aims to equip graduates with leading theories and concepts of strategy, leadership, finance, entrepreneurship, along with specialised knowledge in marketing management, creativity and brand communications, and digital marketing. The MBA course is designed for professionals and graduates, who want to develop business and management skills to boost their current career, perhaps make a career change, start their own business or lead their existing business into its next growth phase.

On successful completion, you should be able to:

  • describe the impact of external forces on marketing and business – such as legal systems; corporate governance; and ethical, economic, environmental, social and technological change issues
  • develop intelligent, well-informed and creative marketing strategies which target groups and a set of organisational goals
  • develop international markets for resources, goods and services, taking into account the expectations of customers and other stakeholders
  • describe consumer segmentation and profiling, and know how to orient products, services and communication towards selected segments and profiles
  • articulate the importance of innovation to business success.

The course aims to help you to accelerate your career progression in international marketing upon successful completion – whether you take a holistic approach to all marketing disciplines or focus on a specialism of your choice. This course provides the opportunity to equip yourself with the high-level marketing, business and finance skills, which employers are looking for in their future leaders. Upon successful completion, you’ll potentially be able to pursue the professional, senior management and leadership roles which interest you in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. The international focus of your course means you could work almost anywhere. You could work for a multinational or a company which imports/exports, either in the UK or overseas. Upon successful completion you’ll also have an excellent skillset for helping organisations to begin doing business internationally for the first time.

Where our graduates work

When you graduate, you might choose to join a business of any size, from a start-up (perhaps your own!) to an SME or a global enterprise. Your work could take you into industry and manufacturing, the services sector, or even the charity or humanitarian sectors. You might decide to join, or start, a marketing services company/agency which supplies services to business. This could offer you a particular opportunity to specialise in areas such as market research, branding, public relations, IT, digital marketing, advertising or customer service. Another option could be consultancy, perhaps with one of the world’s leading consulting firms. Alternatively, you might go into related fields such as journalism or product research and development.

Further study

As part of the journey of professional and role development, students are encouraged to continue on their academic journey through access to a range of higher degrees, including PhD and other taught doctorates.

I recently began a role as a Customer Marketing Executive for The Gym Group in their head office in London. The International Marketing MBA course really helped me stand out from other candidates, as they were really impressed with my degree and the modules on the course. Besides my own work experience, the marketing modules in particular helped me to secure my role, as I was able to show my knowledge during tasks in the interview process.
