Project overview

Diesel engines impose high loads on their crankshaft bearings. Traditionally these engines have used lead based bearing materials to support these loads. Lead is a toxic heavy metal and its future use will be increasingly restricted by legislation. New technologies for manufacturing.

Project objectives

The purpose of the project was to investigate ultrasonic technology to facilitate the electrochemical deposition of innovative multifunctional coatings on bearings to enhance the sustainability of automotive, marine and industrial engines.
